What happened

The NewStatPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting in versions up to, and including, 1.4.5 via the 'Last referrers' meta box on the plugin's Overview admin page.

This is due to insufficient output escaping of the visitor-supplied query string that the plugin records in its statistics table: the newstatpress_generate_overview_lastreferrers() function concatenates the stored urlrequested value into a single-quoted href attribute after only FILTER_SANITIZE_URL, which does not encode the apostrophe.

This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a high-privileged user, such as an administrator, accesses the Overview page and hovers the injected link.

About this data

This record was ingested from a data source. Retrieved: Oct 26, 2026, 22:57 UTC. Ingestion is not an independent editorial investigation.

NVD status: Deferred. Publication in the NVD is not evidence of exploitation.

Looked up on demand from NVD because this CVE is outside the regularly tracked set (older, or rated below HIGH). It is not in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog as of the last ingestion.

A CISA KEV listing documents known exploitation, not necessarily a zero-day; absence from the catalog does not prove a vulnerability has never been exploited.

Technology tags indicate possible relevance, not verified exposure. Confirm the affected product, version, and configuration against your own inventory; KEVWire does not scan your systems.

A personal reading checklist on this device, not verified remediation.
