What happened

The Live2DWebCanvas plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Arbitrary File Upload in all versions up to, and including, 2.2.1 via the download_one_file function. This is due to missing file extension whitelist and MIME type validation in download_one_file() when writing files derived from attacker-controlled manifest entries to the web-served plugin directory.

This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to upload files that may be executable, which makes remote code execution possible when the plugin's apiType setting is configured as custom-local (self-hosted model mode), a non-default option that requires a paid license and prints the REST nonce and one-time session tokens into every front-end page.

NVD status: Deferred. Publication in the NVD is not evidence of exploitation.

A CISA KEV listing documents known exploitation, not necessarily a zero-day; absence from the catalog does not prove a vulnerability has never been exploited.

Technology tags indicate possible relevance, not verified exposure. Confirm the affected product, version, and configuration against your own inventory; KEVWire does not scan your systems.
